Karol Skrzymowski

Short biography:

Karol Skrzymowski is a Managing Integration Architect at Capgemini, co-founder of BridgingTheGap.eu.com, and the trainer of the workshop Strategic Integration Design with DDD: a methodology that applies Domain-Driven Design to the design of integrated enterprise software ecosystems.
He has over fifteen years of hands-on experience in Enterprise Application Integration (EAI), with deep expertise in API-Led Architecture and Event-Driven Architecture (EDA).

Having worked across the full spectrum of enterprise integration platforms (Tibco BusinessWorks, webMethods, MuleSoft, Boomi, Azure Integration Services, WSO2), Karol has developed something rare: the ability to distinguish structural integration problems from single-tool problems. Organisations change platforms. The patterns that make an integration fragile or solid remain the same.
His central argument is that Enterprise Application Integration keeps failing not because of wrong technology choices, but because the space between systems is never treated as a design concern. Teams define bounded contexts with care, apply Domain-Driven Design principles rigorously, and then wire everything together with ad-hoc flows and point-to-point integrations that nobody owns. The result compounds with every new system added.
Karol’s answer is to bring Domain-Driven Design rigour to the space between systems, a level that is usually dismissed as infrastructure. He applies Ecosystem Architectural Styles as a qualitative frame of reference for trade-off analysis at ecosystem scale, and introduced the Interchange Context: a first-class bounded context whose domain is interoperability itself. By explicitly mapping DDD Context Mapping patterns to Integration Architectural Styles, he makes the sociotechnical dimension concrete: the right integration pattern is not a technology decision, it follows from the organisational relationship between the teams involved.

Through BridgingTheGap.eu.com, Karol has built an open-source knowledge base for the EAI community, contributing whitepapers, training materials, and live streams.
