Leadership Retreat
Strategic learning for tech and product leaders
Advancing your career means taking on new responsibilities and embracing new perspectives. The knowledge required for new roles becomes increasingly strategic and difficult to categorise, far removed from traditional training.
Specialist skills become useless without interdisciplinary collaboration with colleagues with different backgrounds.
At this level, collaboration means embracing diverse points of view and managing a more multifaceted reality. No single discipline has all the answers; results can only be achieved by contributing different experiences.
A Leadership Retreat is a way to build a strategic common ground together, learning the competencies to improve interdisciplinary collaboration.
Learning experiences for key people
We designed our Leadership Retreat to help your leaders grow. At a Leadership Retreat, experts from diverse disciplines, united by passion, curiosity, and communication skills, will deliver a learning experience tailored to the team and capable of providing precise, honest answers to participants’ needs.
- Interdisciplinary, to explore topics from multiple perspectives, discussing implications and doubts.
- Adaptive, to meet the real needs of your team.
- Engaging, to enable deeper learning, and break out of mental patterns and habits.
There are three fundamental ingredients for building a learning experience of this kind.
- The competence of our experts allows us to address various topics in a non-dogmatic way, exploring different perspectives. Their affinity will enable us to build a coherent vision of the space between the various disciplines.
- The adaptive format allows us to gather your team’s needs in real time and build a path that addresses key issues, surfaces doubts and obstacles, and builds a coherent vision of the topics. The balance between full and empty times creates space for more sincere and deeper side conversations.
- High-level facilitation ensures that the experience is engaging and able to pick up on small signals from all participants. Interactive visualisation allows immediate anchoring to covered topics, building a coherent representation of the learning and transformation journey.
All this happens in “special” off-site locations, preferably in the Italian countryside. Special locations unlock a different way of thinking, away from the workplace dysfunctions and habits.
Who is this for?
This workshop is for leaders who need to understand the needs and the constraints of “the other side”.
-
💻 Tech Leaders: Balancing technical debt with business delivery.
-
🚀 Product Leaders: Building sustainable roadmaps without burning out teams.
-
🎨 Design Leaders: Fostering pragmatic collaboration across disciplines.
Designing a leadership retreat
In the first phase, we will identify your team’s pain points by talking with your main sponsors and conducting quick interviews. This will allow us to select the most suitable experts.
Together, we will design a learning experience that navigates key topics, offering challenges and insights.
Some topics work best when supported by interactive activities, like serious games and challenges. Others require facilitated conversation or moments of reflection and introspection. The initial plan of activities allows us to find the best compromise between the event’s duration and the achievable goals, creating the best possible learning experience.
But a plan is just a safety net for building a learning experience open to every participant’s contribution. It’s a frame that will be filled with moments of discussion, deep dive, and practice.
Duration is a key ingredient, too. Some threads have a beginning and a closure, but sometimes a crisis in the middle as well. This is especially true when the discussion calls out old assumptions and beliefs. Time allows for managing peaks and valleys of energy and focus.
Experiencing a leadership retreat
We start by quickly creating a safe space for conversation so we can touch on topics important to the people present. Surprises are possible, and often welcome.
Formats like Open Space can facilitate adaptive learning experiences, providing opportunities for hands-on or deeper conversations.
We build a possible path together, knowing that each activity can—and often must—change the game. We’ll share and discuss discoveries, helping to refine the plan. The balance of full and empty spaces creates opportunities for deeper conversations, making doubts and uncertainties explicit.
Together, we foster a new awareness that makes the principles and ideas of different disciplines compatible and provides tools to navigate the many voices, helping you understand what is important to you now.
What emerges in a Leadership Retreat?
Team and format are adaptive, and no two retreats are alike. However, some themes tend to surface more often:
- Managing long-lasting technical debt. Balancing business-driven evolution with sustainable platform maintenance.
- IT Capacity Planning. We doubled the budget and organisation size, but not the throughput.
- Collaborazione efficace. How and when to involve other departments in the design of critical initiatives.
- Collaborative strategies for decision-making onsite and remotely.
